As the arts are a crucial part of school life, we make sure our students are exposed to the widest range of participation opportunities. Our department not only develops artistic expression and diversity, it builds a portfolio of skills that directly enriches the way our students engage with the world around them.
Performing arts thrive at ACS Hillingdon. We organise productions throughout the year for the different divisions, including Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast, The Wizard of Oz, Seussical and A Midsummer Nights Dream. Our students travel throughout Europe to participate in ISTA (the International School Theatre Association) festivals.
Music is equally important, with our after-school rock band club, jazz band and choirs. Our high-quality music education engages and inspires students to develop a love of music. Students in all Grade levels perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a wide range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions. They learn to sing and to use their voices, they create and compose music on their own and with others and they have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument.
The Visual Arts team at ACS stay up-to-date with the latest in arts education through our partnership with the education team at Tate Modern and annual trips to Brighton, where students create and learn alongside working artists. Examples of student art can be found throughout the school from paintings to drawings, textiles to sculpture.
Our Film Programme enables students to develop their skills based on key artistic influences from around the world. Students are given the opportunity to create film in a variety of genres and styles, using industry standard film technologies and software. As part of the IB Career Programme (IBCP), ACS Hillingdon has a unique partnership with Pinewood Studios located close to the school, offering career-related internships in some of the creative skills involved in film production currently make-up and prosthetics.

ACS Sports – 4G pitch
Sport is an essential part of an all-round education. We focus on developing teamwork, dedication, self-confidence and discipline, so our students are ready for the wider world.
Our dedicated team of full-time coaches have 11 acres of excellent facilities to play in, including a full-size, multi-functional gym, all-weather tennis courts and sports fields. We also own soccer pitches, rugby fields, softball and baseball diamonds a short ride from campus, and have access to a swimming pool and athletics track in the area.
ACS Sports
Sport is very much at the heart of ACS Hillingdon and we encourage all students to participate no matter what their skillset or preferred sport with very high participation levels across the school. Late buses ensure that students can stay after school and join clubs or attend team practices and get home safely.
Our athletes compete against local and other international schools across Europe, with fixtures taking them to Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt, Vienna, and Athens. This is a privilege the students embrace completely, using their sporting prowess to also further their internationalism.
As a relatively small school, we are proud of our ability to put forward competitive, successful teams of student athletes. We celebrate each middle school season with an awards ceremony, and hold a banquet for our high school teams at the end of the school year. 45 different teams represent our school over the school year at all levels and all our athletes are recognised for their participation in the athletics programme and special awards are given each season to applaud accomplishments.
Art Classroom
We have an extensive Visual Arts programme embedded into our curriculum throughout the school. We believe in the student-centred ethos that is promoted across the whole school and this informs our teaching and curriculum design. In our displays and exhibitions of work, our student voice shines through and makes for the variety and range in the work on show. Our art studios are located on the upper level of Mansion with impressive views of the grounds.
Auditorium
Our auditorium was recently upgraded with state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment, and offers a contemporary space for performances and all-school assemblies. Our most recent shows include Chicago, Footloose, Grease and Bugsy Malone.
Digital Arts Classroom
The IB Career-related Programme Digital Arts course includes animation, 3D modelling, game design, visual effects and computer programming, working towards a personal portfolio. Students will benefit from collaboration with industry specialists and mentors throughout the two-year course.
ACS Hillingdon has long been a partner to the UK Film industry, with strong links to Pinewood Studios, the creators of Hollywood films such as the James Bond, Star Wars and Jurassic Park franchises.

Our dedicated in-house chefs ensure menus are seasonal and diverse, and the technology we use allows for biometric parents such as fingerprints and facial recognition.

Our teachers promote cross-cultural understanding and differentiate instruction to meet our students’ varying needs, abilities, and learning styles. Our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes are staffed with one full time teacher and a full time teaching assistant.
Fitness Suite
Our fitness suite supports the physical wellbeing and fitness development of students. It features a variety of exercise equipment and zones for different types of activities, offering opportunities for both individual workouts and group fitness classes through PE sessions, lunch-time and after-school clubs. Students also have supervised access to our brand new climbing wall which is connected to the Fitness Suite.
High School Library
Connected to the main entrance hall by a long corridor are three smaller reception rooms. The first was originally a smoking room and Library with cedar panelled walls and bookshelves. Further along is a sitting room, and an oak-panelled study with an outstanding marble mantelpiece.
All three of these rooms make up our Library space with not only full bookshelves but also computers for research and access to our online resources. Classes are also held in these rooms along with collaborative study and research group lessons.
History of the Main House
Hillingdon Court was formerly the home of several generations of the Mills family – distinguished noblemen who became the Barons Hillingdon. There were five Barons, successively, and they were powerful influences in banking, politics, commerce, and the construction of railroads right up to 1982 when the 5th Lord Hillingdon died without an heir and the title ceased to exist.
Under the ownership of the Roman Catholic Church, Hillingdon Court became a nursing home. It suffered bomb damage during the Second World War, destroying a well in the inner courtyard that had supplied the house with water for decades. The handsome and substantially built mansion was originally constructed in white brick and stone in the classical style, between 1854 and 1858, by P.C. Hardwick for Sir Charles Mills, an international banker from one of the most affluent City families of the 19th century.
The house is approached by a drive terminating in front of the north entrance with what is known as a ‘carriage sweep’. The principal front faces due north and, up until 1920, looked directly over magnificently wooded parkland.
The original morning room is located through a door on the left of the main entrance hall (now home to the Head of School) and an ante-room to the rear of the hall connects the former drawing room and the dining room, and gives access to the colonnade and terraced gardens to the south front.

Hardwick for Sir Charles Mills, an international banker from one of the most affluent City families of the 19th century. Student Support Services
The goal of the Student Support Services Department is to provide a holistic approach to meeting students’ academic, personal, social, physical and emotional needs. Thus, individual learning styles are assessed and accommodated through a variety of methods. These may include, but are not limited to, small group or individual assistance in and/or out of class, as well as the use of visual, auditory and/or kinaesthetic teaching methods.

Our lower school is able to support students with mild learning disabilities who are able to follow the regular programme, provided that resources are available.
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
The EAL programme in the lower school supports students for whom English is an additional language. The aims of the programme are to increase the receptive and expressive skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Challenge Extension Pull-Out (Grades 3 and 4)
Our Challenge Extension programme provides students, who qualify for the programme, with the opportunities for accelerated progress and access to new, more challenging concepts or content.
Counselling
Our lower school counsellor provides direct school counselling services to all of our students. Through individual and small group sessions, classroom-based activities and school-wide programs, students work with our school counsellor to receive personal, social and emotional support.
THINK TANK
Coding, Media and Design is a very important part of the curriculum at ACS Hillingdon.
Students learn the design process of Define, Ideate, Create and Refine in which they generate and develop authentic projects within the studied course. They learn the skills needed, whether it be writing code, programming robots, or directing, shooting and editing films. Students will also develop ‘soft skills’ in, for example, presentation, communication, collaboration, feedback and planning for the use of resources.

It too has been restored as far as possible to the way it looked during the 1800s. The decorations in the Green Room include fruit, grains and hunting symbols such as the dog and fox faces painted on the ceiling.
The last Lord Hillingdon, who visited the school several years before his death, recalled visits to the mansion when he was a small boy. His most vivid memories included watching the hunting parties leave in the early morning and return many hours later for festivities in the mansion.
The Red Room
The drawing room (now called the Red Room) has a lofty ceiling and decorations in red and white, with gilt plasterwork. When Hillingdon Court was owned by the Little Sisters of Mary, the Red Room was used as their chapel, but it has since been restored as far as possible to its original décor, complete with guilded mirrors and frescoed ceilings.
The richly decorated reception rooms are adorned with ornamental plaques containing the initials of Charles Henry Mills and his wife, Lady Louisa Isabella Lascelles. The initials are entwined for effect. Also incorporated in the decorations, and cleverly hidden, are the servants' bells.

The last Lord Hillingdon, who visited the school several years before his death, recalled visits to the mansion when he was a small boy. His most vivid memories included watching the hunting parties leave in the early morning and return many hours later for festivities in the mansion.
The Red Room
The drawing room (now called the Red Room) has a lofty ceiling and decorations in red and white, with gilt plasterwork. When Hillingdon Court was owned by the Little Sisters of Mary, the Red Room was used as their chapel, but it has since been restored as far as possible to its original décor, complete with guilded mirrors and frescoed ceilings.
The richly decorated reception rooms are adorned with ornamental plaques containing the initials of Charles Henry Mills and his wife, Lady Louisa Isabella Lascelles. The initials are entwined for effect. Also incorporated in the decorations, and cleverly hidden, are the servants' bells.
